Departure Information

Checkout Time

Checkout time is 10:00 AM. Should you require a later checkout, please let us know in advance, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your request. However, if we have guests arriving on the same day, we may not be able to provide a late checkout.

Additionally, if our cleaning team arrives and finds that you have not yet checked out, you will be charged an extra fine. This delay could potentially lead to the cancellation of the same-day reservation for incoming guests, and any resulting charges will be passed on to you.

To ensure everyone remains happy and to avoid unnecessary complications, we kindly ask that you adhere strictly to the checkout time. Thank you for your understanding!

Checkout Process

Before your departure, we kindly ask that you take care of the following tasks to help us prepare for the next guests:

  • Wash Used Dishes: Please wash any used dishes and either leave them to dry on the rack or place them in the dishwasher. Ensure the dishwasher is started before you leave to avoid leaving dirty dishes behind.
  • Empty Trash: Kindly empty all trash bins in the house and place the trash in the designated garbage cans located at the driveway of the house. This helps us maintain a clean environment for the next guests.
  • Sweep and Wipe Floors: Please sweep and wipe any areas of the house that became unclean during your stay.
  • Vacuum Carpets: Kindly vacuum carpeted areas that became unclean during your stay.
  • Clean the Kitchen: Wipe down any surfaces in the kitchen that become unclean during your stay.

Additional cleaning time required due to improper checkout will result in extra charges being billed to you. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain the beauty and cleanliness of our property!

Important Note on Rubbish Disposal

If the rubbish bin provided at the property is full, we kindly inform you that you will need to take any additional rubbish with you upon checkout. Unfortunately, we do not have extra resources to handle surplus rubbish without incurring additional costs. Farm & Animal

Farm & Animal

At The Hidden Paradise in the Valley, we offer a tranquil environment with lush greenery and the charm of both domesticated and wild animals. Here’s a little more about our resident animals:

  • Goats: Our goats have currently been rehomed due to some issues with our fences. Once the fencing is repaired and we can ensure they’ll safely stay within the farm, we plan to welcome them back. Normally, we have six lovable goats—five females and one distinct male with a beard, easily recognizable. They add charm to our farm and help naturally mow the grass. Visitors are always welcome to feed them under supervision, as our goats are gentle, curious, and full of personality!
  • Parrots and Native Birds: Our property is a true haven for bird lovers! Guests often spot and photograph colourful parrots and native birds right from the balcony or in the backyard trees. You may encounter Blue-winged Kookaburras, Red-winged Parrots, Crimson Rosellas, and Pale-headed Rosellas. As the sun sets, you’ll likely hear or see the majestic Sulphur-crested Cockatoos flying gracefully across the sky. Don’t forget your camera—these beautiful birds love to show off for our guests!
  • Wombat: Hidden beneath the ground in the left corner of our farm lives a wild wombat, a nocturnal, sleepy creature much like a koala. Wombats are shy and will likely scurry away if approached. The Hidden Valley area is known for its wombat population, so keep an eye out at night when they’re most active, especially when driving.
  • Wild Rabbits: Like much of Australia, our property has some resident wild rabbits, which you might spot hopping around at sunset, especially near their burrows in the right middle corner of the farm. They are harmless and swift, often darting away at the first sign of humans.
  • Kangaroos: Hidden Valley is home to many kangaroos, and they often roam the nearby resort and occasionally visit us. They may hop over or dig under the fence to explore our farm. If you're driving at dusk or nighttime, please watch out for these curious visitors, as they can appear suddenly.
  • Blue-tongue Lizards: These friendly reptiles are common across the Hidden Valley region and you may spot them around the garden or near sunny areas of the farm. Don’t worry — Blue-tongue lizards are completely harmless, slow-moving, and often hide when they hear footsteps. They help control insects and are part of the natural wildlife of the area.

Important Note: Please remember to close all gates securely to prevent our goats from wandering off. Enjoy the natural beauty and wildlife around you, and take in the peace and fresh air at The Hidden Paradise in the Valley!

If you have any questions or concerns about our animals, please feel free to contact us. We are here to ensure your stay at The Hidden Paradise in the Valley is both safe and enjoyable.

Electrical Switch Board & Safety

Electrical Switch Board & Safety

At The Hidden Paradise in the Valley, we take the safety of our guests seriously, especially when it comes to electrical safety. The main electrical switch board is located on the side of the house, near the water tank, and has been locked to prevent any unauthorized access. This is in line with Australian electrical safety standards to ensure the safety of everyone on the property.

Why is the Switch Board Locked?

  • To comply with Australian electrical safety regulations, only certified electricians are allowed to open and access electrical switch boards.
  • Opening the switch board without proper knowledge can expose you to high-voltage components, leading to the risk of electrical shock or injury.
  • The lock ensures that untrained individuals cannot tamper with the system, reducing the chance of accidental damage or serious injury.

What To Do If You Experience Electrical Issues:

  • If you encounter any electrical problems such as short circuits, RCD (Residual Current Device) or circuit breaker trips due to overload, do not attempt to fix the issue yourself.
  • Contact us immediately and we will arrange for a licensed electrician to address the issue. Please note, if the issue is determined to be caused by misuse or overloading from your side, additional charges may apply for repairs.
  • Our electrician will ensure the issue is resolved in compliance with Australian standards, which prioritize both safety and proper functioning of electrical systems.

Understanding Australian Electrical Safety Standards

  • In Australia, only individuals with an A-Grade Electrical License are allowed to perform electrical work, including opening switch boards.
  • The safety regulations, governed by the Australian Standards (AS/NZS 3000), ensure that all electrical installations and systems are safe for use and protect against potential hazards.
  • By following these regulations, we aim to keep our guests safe and maintain the integrity of the electrical system on our property.

Important: Please do not attempt to open or tamper with the electrical switch board under any circumstances. Always report electrical issues to us, and we will ensure they are handled by a certified professional.

Your safety is our priority, and we thank you for understanding the importance of these precautions.

Water Meter

Water Meters: Important Information

The water meter at The Hidden Paradise in the Valley is located right in front of the main door, while the gas meter is situated beside it. These meters are critical to the operation of the house, supplying water , so it’s essential not to tamper with or attempt to shut off any valves. Doing so could lead to disruptions in services, potentially affecting your stay.

Parking Warning: We must also remind you that parking in the area near the water and gas meters is strictly prohibited. Parking beside these meters, or blocking them in any way, can result in significant damage to the meters. In the unfortunate event of damage, it could result in the need for intervention by emergency services like the fire brigade or the water company. Such issues could incur hefty fines, which would be transferred directly to you, the guest. We want to avoid any inconvenience or potential fines, so please ensure you park only in the designated spots for a smooth and enjoyable stay.

This meter plays a crucial role in supplying gas to the property for heating, hot water, and other essential services. Please avoid tampering with or attempting to shut off the gas meter valve, as this could disrupt your stay and cause serious service interruptions.

Parking Restrictions: It’s equally important to remember that parking near the gas meter is strictly prohibited. If the gas meter is damaged, it may require intervention from emergency services and the gas company, and any associated fines or charges will be the responsibility of the guest.

We encourage all guests to be mindful of these rules to ensure a safe, smooth, and enjoyable experience while staying at our property.

Water Tank

Water Tank: Rainwater Collection System

At The Hidden Paradise in the Valley, we have a rainwater collection tank located in the backyard, near the small shed. Please note that this water is not safe for drinking or any other consumption purposes.

The water tank is an essential part of our effort to reduce water waste and preserve our beautiful natural surroundings. We kindly ask that guests refrain from tampering with the tank or its connected systems, as doing so could interfere with our ability to maintain the landscaping and plants around the property.

5. Temperature Sensors

Additional temperature sensors are installed in key areas to maintain a stable indoor environment and help protect the property from extreme heat or cold. These sensors work automatically and require no action from guests.

6. Contact Sensors (Lockable Doors)

For your safety and security, all lockable doors are fitted with contact sensors that alert us if any restricted or secured areas are accessed. Please do not attempt to open or enter any locked or restricted areas during your stay. These measures are in place to ensure your safety and protect essential equipment and private storage zones.

7. Doorbell System

The property is equipped with a doorbell system that includes two receivers: one located upstairs beside the ducted heating controller, and another downstairs beside the garage wall switch. There are also two doorbell buttons — one attached to the main wall near the entrance and another on the outside fence beside the small main gate — so you can hear the bell clearly from anywhere in the house.

At The Hidden Paradise in the Valley, we strive to maintain a clean and environmentally friendly space. Garbage Bins are conveniently located near the driveway, to the right of where you parked. Our garbage pickup service occurs every Friday, ensuring that waste is regularly cleared from the property.

Recycling is collected every two weeks. To ensure you’re participating in our community’s recycling efforts, you can observe your neighbors—if their recycling bins are out, it’s time to bring yours out too! We encourage you to separate recyclables from regular waste to minimize our impact on the environment.

It is essential that you place the garbage bins by the road on your reservation day. If your stay does not coincide with a garbage pickup day, please note that we will not have a way to dispose of your garbage, which may incur additional charges for disposal. To avoid any surprises, we will notify you on Thursday night with detailed instructions about the garbage and recycling schedule for the upcoming week.

Waste Collection Schedule:

  • Food and garden organics (green lid) — Weekly
  • Mixed recycling (yellow lid) — Fortnightly

New Kerbside Service (Starting March 2025)

From March 2025, Mitchell Shire Council is implementing its new kerbside service called “Do The Right Bin”. As part of this new service, all residential households in Mitchell currently receiving a kerbside service will be moved to the 4-bin system:

  • General rubbish (red lid) — Fortnightly
  • Glass recycling (purple lid) — Monthly

For more information, visit: Mitchell Shire Council - Kerbside Transition

For more information, visit: Bin Collection Calendar

Garden Hose

For your convenience, there is a garden hose located on the right side of the house garage door, at the end of driveway. We kindly ask that you rinse off your feet and any items that may be muddy before bringing them into the house. This practice not only helps to maintain the cleanliness of our interior but also keeps the outdoor area looking pristine.

Using the garden hose is simple: just turn on the spigot located nearby and adjust the nozzle as needed. It’s perfect for rinsing off any outdoor gear after a day of exploring the stunning surroundings or cleaning off your shoes after a walk around the property. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our space tidy and welcoming for all guests.

Operating A/C & Heat

Operating A/C & Heat

Welcome to the climate control section of your stay! Our house is equipped with a modern gas ducted heating system, ensuring a cozy atmosphere during the colder months. This system is designed for efficiency and comfort, and it is controlled through a main thermostat located upstairs, right next to the fridge. Below, you'll find all the information you need to operate both the heating and air conditioning units effectively.

Air Conditioning

During the warmer months, you can make use of the air conditioning unit situated in the main lounge room upstairs. While we typically enjoy the natural breeze that comes through the open windows, the A/C provides an excellent alternative if you prefer a cooler environment indoors. Please remember to keep the fly screens in place while the windows are open to prevent insects from entering the house.

Upstairs Unit

The thermostat for the downstairs ducted heating system is conveniently located on the wall in the kitchen, directly across from the fridge. Here’s how to operate it:

  1. Turning the System On/Off: To activate or deactivate the heating system, simply press the button on the thermostat.
  2. Adjusting the Temperature: Use the symbols located above the temperature display to increase or decrease the temperature. This feature allows you to set the room to your preferred level of comfort.
  3. Setting Your Desired Temperature: After turning the system on, you can drag up or down on the right side of the screen to adjust the temperature to your liking. For maximum comfort, find the setting that feels best for you.
  4. Using the Remote Control: For added convenience, a remote control is provided to manage the air conditioning unit from anywhere in the room. This allows you to make adjustments without needing to get up from your comfortable spot!

Downstairs Unit

The thermostat for the downstairs ducted heating system is also same one located conveniently upstairs. This unit effectively controls the ducting that serves the lounge room, ensuring that you have a consistent temperature throughout:

  1. Turning the Unit On/Off: Just like the downstairs unit, you can easily turn the upstairs air conditioning on or off using the button on the thermostat.
  2. Temperature Adjustment: Adjusting the temperature works the same way as the downstairs unit, giving you complete control over your environment.

Pedestal Fans

Each bedroom and the function room are equipped with a 50cm pedestal fan. You can find them stored in each room's BIR - Built-In Robe for your convenience.

Heater Fans

Each bedroom is equipped with a small heater fan, with an additional unit in the main lounge and another downstairs. These heater fans can be used for both cooling and heating, featuring two levels of heating for your comfort.

Important Notes

To maximize the efficiency of both heating and air conditioning:

  • Keep Doors and Windows Closed: For optimal performance, ensure that all doors and windows are closed while the heating or air conditioning is in use. This helps maintain a consistent temperature and reduces energy consumption.
  • Opening Doors/Windows: If you wish to enjoy some fresh air, please remember to turn off the heating or cooling unit first. This prevents the systems from working harder than necessary and helps avoid any potential damage.

We aim to provide you with a comfortable living environment during your stay, and we encourage you to explore the options available to control the temperature in your space. If you have any questions or require assistance with the systems, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Enjoy your stay and stay comfortable!

Laundry Appliances

Laundry Appliances

The laundry area is conveniently located upstairs, in the last room opposite the direction of the staircase. We’ve provided both a washing machine and a dryer for your convenience. Feel free to use these appliances to keep your clothes fresh during your stay at The Hidden Paradise in the Valley. Below are the instructions to help you operate them easily.

Washing Machine

The washing machine is fully automated and user-friendly. To get the best results, follow these steps:

  1. Choose the Program: The washing machine is equipped with pre-programmed modes for various types of laundry. These modes include settings for delicate fabrics, heavy loads, quick washes, and more. Use the control panel to select the most suitable mode for your laundry load. The display will guide you through your options.
  2. Add Detergent: We’ve provided detergent for your use (either liquid or powder), which you’ll find in the cabinet next to the washing machine. Add an appropriate amount of detergent into the designated compartment inside the machine. Please ensure you use the correct type of detergent (liquid or powder) depending on the wash program selected.
  3. Start the Machine: Once the detergent is added and you’ve selected the correct program, simply press the start button. The machine will automatically handle the rest, from washing to rinsing. You don’t need to monitor it — it will notify you when the cycle is complete.
  4. Important Tip: For larger loads, avoid overfilling the machine, as this can impact its efficiency. Ensure there’s enough space for the water to circulate through the clothes for a thorough clean.
  5. Important Tip: Occasionally, the main valve for the washing machine, located under the laundry sink, may be closed. If you experience any issues with water flow, please ensure the valve is fully open.

Dryer

Once your clothes are washed, you can use the dryer to quickly dry them. Here’s how to operate it:

  1. Load the Dryer: Transfer your washed clothes into the dryer. Be sure to shake out any heavy garments or towels before placing them inside for even drying.
  2. Select the Drying Mode: Like the washing machine, the dryer also features several pre-set drying modes. You can choose from modes like low heat for delicate items or high heat for towels and heavier fabrics. Select the mode that best fits your load using the control panel.
  3. Start the Dryer: Once the clothes are loaded and the appropriate setting is chosen, press the start button, and the dryer will begin its cycle. The dryer is also automated and will stop once your clothes are dry.
  4. Empty the Lint Trap: For safety and efficiency, we recommend emptying the lint trap after each use. The lint trap is located inside the door or near the bottom of the dryer. Removing lint ensures proper airflow and helps the dryer operate more efficiently.
  5. Important Tip: While the dryer is convenient, we encourage you to check your clothing labels for heat sensitivity. Some delicate fabrics may benefit from air-drying to preserve their condition.

For both the washing machine and the dryer, please ensure that the laundry area is kept clean and tidy after use. Our cleaning team will handle the deep cleaning, but leaving the appliances in a neat condition will help us maintain the home for future guests. Please note that excessive cleaning or misuse of the appliances may incur an extra cleaning charge.

If you encounter any issues with the laundry appliances, please feel free to reach out to us for assistance. We hope these amenities make your stay even more convenient and enjoyable!

  • This outdoor space offers breathtaking 180-degree views of the rolling countryside. It's the perfect spot for enjoying your morning coffee or watching the sunset.

From the balcony, you can access the basement via the staircase, which leads to additional amenities and the backyard.

Basement Level:

The basement adds another dimension of functionality, offering:

  • The Fire Danger Period is declared by the CFA (Country Fire Authority) during high bushfire risk conditions, typically from November to April, but this may vary by region. Additionally, local councils may enforce their own restrictions on fire use. Always ensure you comply with the regulations to stay safe and avoid penalties.

The entire backyard is a private sanctuary, offering open spaces for leisurely walks, stargazing, or simply soaking in the fresh air. The property’s extensive land provides plenty of opportunities to explore and unwind in the beauty of nature.

Whether you're cooking a meal on the BBQ, gathering around the firepit, or sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine, The Hidden Paradise in the Valley offers the ultimate countryside escape. It’s a place where luxury meets nature, and where you can truly relax and enjoy your stay.

Bifold Windows & Flyscreens

For bifold windows, we have installed retractable flyscreens. Please be careful when opening and closing them to avoid damage.

The retractable flyscreen opens from the sides toward the middle, where a lock is located for both the right and left sides. Follow these steps to operate it safely:

How to Close the Flyscreen:
  • First, open the bifold windows completely.
  • Use both hands (one at the top and one at the bottom) to carefully pull the right retractable flyscreen toward the middle and lock it.
  • Repeat the same process for the left retractable flyscreen.
How to Unlock & Open the Flyscreen:
  • Use both hands to gently push the handle forward slightly.
  • The lock will automatically release, and the screen will retract on its own.

These flyscreens help keep bugs outside and prevent insects from entering the house, ensuring a comfortable environment inside.

Planning Your Arrival

Planning Your Arrival

Check-in time begins at 3:00 PM unless other arrangements are made ahead of time. You will not be allowed to enter the house before the check-in time, as the key will work exactly at that time. Sometimes, cleaning staff will be working in the house before check-in, so arriving early may disturb them and prevent them from finishing on time.

Prior to your arrival date, we will send you an access code to the door. Your access code will begin to work at the date/time of check-in and will stop working upon checkout. Please use the main door, not the garage door. The main door has a smart lock that accepts the access code. Follow these steps to access the property:

  1. Slide your hand across the screen to activate the keypad.
  2. Enter your 6 to 8 digit Access Code followed by the # button.
  3. Press * at any time to reset if you entered the wrong digit.
  4. If the Access Code entered is correct, the door will unlock.

Please ensure that the smart door is closed while you are outside. Do not forget to close it if no one is in the house. If you have any issues with access, please call us immediately if it's during working hours; otherwise, text us, and we will respond ASAP. All other doors should be opened from the inside.

Parking Information

We have three dedicated parking spots for you during your stay. These spots are located directly in front of the house, beside the mailbox, and there is a driveway leading to the garage. Please do not park on the street or on the grass. The Mitchell Shire Council is very strict with car parking, and parking over grass can result in fines, so we advise you to avoid this to keep away from any fines.

Once parked, you’ll enter through the front door.

Don’t Forget To Bring

Don’t Forget To Bring

Your packing list will depend on the time of year and your interests. Many guests stay with us to explore the beautiful outdoor areas nearby. If that’s your plan, here are some essentials you won’t want to forget:

  • Sunscreen: Protect your skin during outdoor activities, especially during the warmer months.
  • Umbrellas: Handy for both sun protection and unexpected rain showers.
  • Gumboots: A good idea if you're planning on outdoor adventures, especially during rainy seasons or if you’ll be exploring muddy trails.
  • Hat & Sunglasses: Perfect for sunny days to keep you comfortable during walks and hikes.
  • Bug Repellent: To keep those pesky insects away while you enjoy nature.
  • Reusable Water Bottle: Stay hydrated during your outdoor activities.

We do provide towels for your use, so no need to bring those along. Additionally, you’ll find basic toiletries, but if you have any personal preferences, feel free to bring your own.

If You’re Exploring the Local Attractions:

If you’re planning to visit the many local attractions or enjoy our great local cuisine, here are a few more items to consider:

  • Comfortable Walking Shoes: Since many top restaurants and attractions may require a short walk from parking areas, we recommend bringing comfortable footwear.
  • Dress for Dining: Some restaurants may have a dress code, so consider packing a few outfits suitable for a nice meal out.
  • Camera: Capture memories of the beautiful countryside and nearby attractions!

Weather in Melbourne

As you know, Melbourne’s weather can be a little unpredictable, so it’s important to pack accordingly:

  • Rain Jacket or Waterproof Coat: Melbourne is known for having four seasons in one day, so it’s always a good idea to be prepared for rain.
  • Layered Clothing: Even in summer, nights can get cool, so pack layers you can add or remove as needed.
  • Winter & Summer Clothing: To be on the safe side, pack a mix of both winter and summer attire. You’ll want warm clothing for the cooler nights and light, breathable clothes for the warmer days.
  • Warm Pajamas: Nights can get chilly, especially during the winter months.

We want you to feel at home and prepared for any adventure you choose to embark on. Whether you’re exploring the local outdoor areas, indulging in delicious local cuisine, or simply relaxing at our retreat, these packing tips will help you make the most of your stay.

So, take a little time to pack smartly and get ready to relax and enjoy your time at The Hidden Paradise in the Valley!
